Ghost Sea
As our waterways fill with plastic, we are rapidly approaching the point when there will be more plastic than fish in our oceans. “Ghost Sea” projects forward to a time when the only signs of life are occasional glimpses of something bobbing in the current that indexically resembles, for one fleeting moment, at least, someone who once swam here. Inspired by a photograph by Shane Gross, I sought to transform everyday items known to pollute our seas into imprints of the animals they are crowding out. Like faded memories, only half-realized.
