Tea with Grandma

I have been feeling a strong emotional pull with family, to dive deep into ancestry, heritage, and tradition. Specifically, I have been thinking about the customs, histories, and lore that have been lost or are fading from memory. For this performance, I summoned my maternal grandmother to "spill the tea" about our family's past, present, and future, but instead of divining with literal tea I used tarot. I have not read tarot for many years and realized that I forgot many aspects of the ritual, but I invoked Fire, Water, Earth, and Air to hold space for the reading, and attuned my chakras to the cards using vocalized intonation. Finally, I introduced my grandmother's ashes to guide the pendulum to the cards for a traditional Celtic Cross tarot spread. And what did she tell me? That the things I think I want are about to fall away - violently even - and I will be transformed.
